Editorial Reviews
School Library Journal
“An outstanding tool. Chapter one, 'Writing Ethics,' discusses the reason for citing information and gives students examples of lessons from 'real life.' The second chapter, 'Research,' provides advice on choosing a topic, formulating a thesis, using the library, and evaluating sources. 'Writing' teaches students how to compose introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions, and provides advice on making revisions. These initial instructions are followed by individual chapters on citing information according to the Modern Language Association (MLA), the American Psychological Association (APA), the Chicago Manual of Style, and The Council of Science Editors. Each chapter explains why one would choose that particular style and has its own index. Because of its abbreviated format, the book is a welcome alternative to the style handbooks produced by MLA and APA. While both of these publications provide excellent, detailed information for scholarly writers, much of it is not necessary for high school term papers. The information in this volume truly addresses creating citations in an accessible way.”

“Compact size and a higher quotient of straightforwardness will probably make this book the first choice of many students and other users, even if they suspect they might later have to turn to one of the larger, conventional sources. The book opens with a chapter on ethics and avoiding plagiarism, followed by one on research, one on writing a research paper, and a chapter on each of the four major writing styles – MLA, APA, CMS, and CSE. Everything is clearly explained, and the writers didn't shy away from answering ‘dumb’ questions of the kind that invariably arise in the minds of first-timers. Someone should have written this book years ago.”

American Reference Books Manual
Many high school students who write term papers may be faced with having to use a myriad of research resources such as the electronic books and databases that are available through a library. A college freshman may be faced with having to write a research paper for a biology course and must use the CSE writing style, something with which he or she may be unfamiliar. In both instances, these students will almost always need assistance in locating resources, keeping track of citations, and formulating thesis statements. Cite It Right is a helpful manual that guides students (and professors) through the research and writing process. It contains two sections: one that explains plagiarism, paraphrasing, and quotations, and another that describes in detail four major writing styles (MLA, APA, Chicago, and CSE-Council of Science Editors). The manual devotes one chapter per writing style with each chapter providing examples of references and layouts for title pages and bibliographies. In addition to including an overall index, the manual also features separate indexes for each individual style, making it easier for users to quickly locate specific citation formats. Cite It Right is a portable extension of Citation Builder. It is small enough to carry around in a book bag, yet would fit nicely on a library's ready-reference shelf. Information centers and libraries that serve students, professors, or any other researcher may want to add this user-friendly manual to their collections.”
